Saturday, September 11th - Americana Tour of Penn Quarter. Our adventure starts at the American Art Museum, where we’ll take in the Norman Rockwell exhibit. Telling Stories is the first major exhibition to explore in-depth the connections between Norman Rockwell’s iconic images of American life and the movies. Two of America’s best-known modern filmmakers—George Lucas and Steven Spielberg—recognized a kindred spirit in Rockwell and formed significant collections of his work. The exhibition is based on new research into Rockwell, his work and the relationships between the artist and the movies. It showcases fifty-seven major Rockwell paintings and drawings from these private collections. After viewing the exhibit, we’ll head across the street to Zola for a pay-as-you-go lunch. In keeping with our theme, The Zola menu focuses on " straightforward American Cuisine," delighting guests with inspired and imaginative combinations of fresh ingredients reflecting our country's rich cultural diversity. Finally, we’ll head over to Madame Tussaud’s for a 3D look at some of our iconic historical and entertainment figures. Cost: $10M/$15NM for admission into Madame Tussauds (Note that this is a discounted rate), plus cost of lunch. Meet at the top of the escalator at the Archives/Navy Memorial/Penn Quarter metro, by the Navy Memorial at 10:45 a.m. Contact DCActiveSingles@gmail.com or 703-395-5259 with questions.
